3 Ingredient Wonder Mask

Hi Loves,

So here we are still counting down for the day where we can go back to a somewhat normal life / routine. It seems like we’re getting closer to the light at the end of the never-ending tunnel. I have to admit, as horrible as it may sound, I truly miss getting my nails done, eyebrows waxed, monthly facials and the list can go on.

As the weeks in quarantine are passing by, my skin is definitely not at its best… Even though I try to maintain with weekly masks and at home peels, so to kill time I decided to test out a few DIY masks and find my favorite for my needs. My skin felt a bit clogged and I had dark spots from places I had pimples. So, I became my own at home beauty esthetician.

I wanted to find a mask that used ingredients that one might already have around the house on a normal day, the last thing I need is for me to have another reason to leave the house! So, I found my starting point and started reading up about turmeric since that is something I have a lot of. Actually, the one that I have is a fresh ground one that my mother brought from Iran! After sorting through a few I finally found a simple, 3 ingredient mask. It is supposed to work to clear skin and fade the dark spots resulting in a more even complexion. PERFECT!

The 3 magic ingredients are:

  1. ALOE VERA GEL: I just got mine from Whole Foods. It’s just a basic gel, nothing fancy. The benefits are that the aloe vera gel contains loads of antioxidants, enzymes, vitamin A & C and it is highly anti-inflammatory. It helps treating acne and dry skin. Also, the enzymes can help exfoliate the skin to make it feel smoother.

  2. TURMERIC POWDER: I’m just lucky to be Persian and have a typical Persian mother who would bring her daughter fresh ground turmeric from Iran, but you can use any turmeric you would find in the store. Turmeric is also known for its anti-inflammatory wonders; antibacterial benefits and it works as a lightening agent. It’s truly excellent for acne because it is a natural antiseptic and helps to keep the bacteria from spreading.

  3. HONEY: Trader Joe’s for the win! We’ve got one walking distance from the house and it’s my fav. I always get the Organic Unfiltered Honey from Uruguay!! <3 Honey is naturally soothing and has great healing properties. It will nourish your damaged skin to fade scars, like those pesky acne scars! It’s also doubles as a clarifying agent because it naturally opens up your pores, making it easier to unclog them.

That’s literally it!

You blend the 3 ingredients; 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel, 1 teaspoon honey and 1/4th teaspoon of turmeric. It said to use a mask brush, but I used a foundation brush to apply it on my skin. You are supposed to leave it on for about 20-30 minutes. This sounds very easy to do but just wait for the smell… its honestly not the most favorable. I must say, I’ve been using this mask every day now for about a week and I’m pleasantly surprised. I truly see my skin looking clearer and the dark spots are starting to fade! I’m determined to keep this up for the remainder of quarantine but once we are back to normal, I’ll probably reduce it down to once or twice a week or as needed.

Personal tip: I make enough for 2-3 days and store it in the fridge for it to also have a nice cooling effect at the same time. Just cover with foil and you’re set! Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
